MATTHEW WOOD has been a practicing herbalist since 1982. In a period when many authors and lecturers are merely "arm chair herbalists" who offer theories and opinions based on book learning, and others have turned to the exotic traditions of India or China, he has been an active practitioner of traditional Western herbalism. He has helped tens of thousands of clients over the years, with many difficult health problems. While Matthew believes in the virtue of many other healing modalities, he has always been inspired to learn, preserve, and practice the tradition of herbal medicine descending to us from our European, Anglo-American, and Native American heritage. He is a member of the American Herbalists Guild (registered herbalist) and has earned his Masters of Science degree from the Scottish School of Herbal Medicine (accredited by the University of Wales).

Wood is the author of a number of books including The Practice of Traditional Western Herbalism, The Book of Herbal Wisdom, Seven Herbs, Vitalism, and the two volume Earthwise Herbal.

MARGI FLINT owns and operates EarthSong Herbals, a busy family practice and herb school in Marblehead, MA . For over thirty years she has worked as a labor coach, polarity therapist, and herbalist. She has been Adjunct Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine where she taught a four-week rotation in clinical herbal medicine for Fourth Year Medical Students and practitioners at Union Hospital and her clinic in Marblehead, Massachusetts. She continues to teach Herbal Pharmacology at North Shore Community College, and for The Masters of Applied Natural Products course at Massachusetts College of Pharmacology. She is a professional member of the American Herbalist Guild and serves as an Herbal Mentor for those who aspire to professional membership in the organization. She oversees two Practitioners Circles, one at her clinic in Marblehead and one in Newport Rhode Island at Kay Parent’s clinic.

Flint is the author of The Practicing Herbalist, meeting with clients, reading the body, now in it’s second edition. Reviewing the book, Rosemary Gladstar wrote “With all the skill of a master alchemist, Margi weaves together her years of experience as an herbal practitioner with the best of the teachings and the teachers she’s studied with. She stirs in just the right amount of honey, a bit of sass, and a healthy dollop of humor to bring us one of the most eminently useful books on herbal practice available today."

KAY PARENT runs her practice Earthweaver in Newport and also a successful Practitioners Circle monthly. Practicing since 1996 she has become a well admired character in Rhode Island.  Her skills as an intuitive practitioner are eclectic and worthy of aspiring toward. She has taught at the Internation Herb Symposium and the Womens Herbal Conference.

Reading The Body
Pacific Rim College Victoria BC

November 5th - 6th

Learn to read the face, nails, tongue and body to understand indications of lines, blemishes, marks and colors.

Understanding the cues of the organ/body correspondences is a precious gift (and a curse). Indications of hot, cold, damp dry and wind conditions can easily be read once you train your eyes to see. Margi shares the knowledge learned from her teachers and clients over the past three decades.

Topics will include:

-- Facial signs – lines and markings of the tongue, ears, eyes, mouth and nose and their organ/body correspondences. Also nail signs.
-- Significance of tissue color in diagnosis.
-- Signs of hot, cold, damp and dry conditions.
-- Elimination analysis by stool and urine appearance.
-- Discussion of herbs for organ systems.
-- Use of pulse analysis when selecting remedies.

The weekend will be spent partly in lecture and partly in looking at the face, tongue and nails of participants as well as pulse-testing for confirmation of herbs.

We will end each day with a plant meditation.

To register, e-mail James Christian jchristian@pacificrimcollege.ca

Protection from Radiation

I share knowledge of protection from the coming radiation with you all, for we are all connected, sisters, brothers, children, parents, friends from around this planet. “Though fear is the most normal response in a situation like this, it weakens not strengthens the immune system. So breathe out fear, breathe in light and healing and love. Its what the world and the Earth need and are calling forth right now.

I think always of the wise and simple words of Thich Nhat Hanh:

Breathing in I calm my body,

breathing out I smile.....

breathing in I calm my body,

breathing out I smile.

When the big waves comes for us, let us remember to smile....” in conversation today with Rosemary Gladstar.

1. Miso soup is highly protective. Eat Kelp or any seaweed. Put it in soups, smoothies, cooked rice. Eat as much as you can. Sea vegetables but especially kelp (also known as Kombu) has very bioavailable iodine.

2. Eat Reishi, Ganoderma and other medicinal mushrooms to boost the immune system and deal with radioactive fallout. Mushroom Harvest.com 14 mushroom blend or www.herbsetc.com for lots of the products mentioned. He has great orbs that are so pure and so amazing.

3. Eat tons of Blue green Algae or chlorella. Chlorella is 10% chlorophyll. It can squelch toxic debris. It has 40 times more chlorophyll than wheat grass. Herbs Etc ChlorOxigen orbs.

4. Put sea salt in your water and drink it. It will help to detoxify halogens; chlorine, fluoride, bromine and radioactive iodine. Epsom Salts in the bath.

5. Increase selenium (Standard Process Cataplex E) or eat Brazil nuts

6. Ashwaganda, Withania somnifora helps the thyroid deal with radioactive debris.

7. Coconut oil protects the Thyroid.

8. Take High doses of Vitamin C

With all the skill of a master alchemist, Margi weaves together her years of experience as an herbal practitioner with the best of the teachings and teachers she's studied with. She stirs in just the right amount of honey, a bit of sass, and a healthy dollop of humor to bring us one of the most eminently useful books on herbal practice availble today. There's so much wisdom here, so much depth, and so much practical information distilled into these remarkably interesting pages. Even more, there's so much generosity of spirit as Margi invites us into her heart and home and shares with us her deeply personal journey as an herbal practitioner.

~ Rosemary Gladstar, Herbalist and Author

"What a great accumulation of vital observation and herbal tidbits! It makes for a good read as you get a tour of Margi’s office and practice. A real ‘fly on the wall’ experience. In addition, I see it as a very useful reference for practicing herbalists searching for specific information on facial, tongue, and pulse conformation. A good guide on how to sort information from the client intake. Margi respectfully includes the wisdoms of her teachers with references for us to follow to their source. I am grateful to her for paying such close attention over the years and writing this down. This book will be a wonderful addition to the many books already in the herbalist’s library."

                                                                   ~ Gail Julian ~ Herbalist
